iPhone photos

iPhone photos has started to develop into a new visual series for me. I like the concept because the photos are generally unplanned and attempt to capture something I find appealing(attempt - I am no photographer), a moment in time where I linger on a particular thought, reflection or mood. I also love the idea of 2 megapixel images, not really a high enough resolution to print as an 6" x 8". This excites be because it challenges traditional concepts of photos as precious things, things to print and keep for years. These photos are not precious, make limited social and artistic commentary and are best suited to web publishing. I'm attempting to comment on the increasing trend of capturing anything and everything digitally these days and sharing it on social media channels. I also like the challenge of learning to manuavure the limitations of iPhone's camera, in particular the lighting and contrast issues. Let's see where it leads.

waiting in line for Amococo

I spent 2 hours on the weekend waiting to see Amococo, a luminarium - a walk-through inflatable sculpture filled with light and vivid colour. Although it was an arduous wait, the soft, subtle interior cushioned the experience perfectly.

Very cool, made by Architects of Air (UK).

Old ladies

Ok, so I know people (men) like to let old ladies onto the bus first, but the way I see it, they have had their fair share of chivalry (no, I'm not saying letting an old lady on the bus first is chivalrous,
just stick with me here), but in the pre-womens movement days, these ladies have not only got on the bus first, but had their bags carried, doors opened, had lunch paid for, sat on chairs while men waited in line. Well excuse me for saying move over old lady, I spent 2 hours waiting in a line on the weekend without a chair, water, or sun umbrella, have been working all day and bought my own lunch- I would like to sit down now, thanks!

Parenting - a lesson in not being attached to your plans

After a hectic day at work, I had grand plans to go late night shopping, spend some hard earned cash on myself and the lad. Maybe grab a DVD on the way home, eat some good food and chill.

Enter 5 year old lad with a toileting dilemma. Add in much distress at said toileting dilemma (constipation) and you have much noise, worse than white noise, the type of noise that tests your nervous system and rocks you to you core, screaming, crying and yelling. Ok, I am compassionate to his said toileting dilemma, I am not a hard hearted mumma (manic maybe), but I have the solution, "let's leave here, go home, get some ice-cream, a DVD and take some medicine." Well that suits if it is part of his plan.

Enter stage left, worlds colliding, World War III material, a clash of wills, no - a clash of plans. After much negotiation and some urgency about after school care closing, we finally left there. Both plans ignored. A new plan created. Cigarettes, deep breathing and rescue remedy for a beaten mum, beaten by that noise, and a new plan for the lad, much need recuperation and cuddling of promised DVD. Well, now to go watch the DVD and ensure no hard and fast plans are made for tomorrow.

10 mins later...
watch DVD - was that a plan? Exhausted lad is asleep

Sometimes I wonder if i'm strange...

Like today, on my way to work a man abruptly pushed in front of me, the type of man who swings his briefcase as if claiming a protective bubble of CBD space and grunts when he walks, like air is burning his nose, or each step is one step closer to an inevitable death, the death of his joy, death of fun, death of his soul.
So as this man practically sends me head on into a bin I boldly announce, "You're walking on me!"
But maybe announce isn't the right word. I didn't bark at him nor spit my words, but I did speak with an element of disgust in my voice, disgust coupled with shock, as if someone would dare do that. Who is he? (Who am I?)
Strangely, no reaction from the man, no looks of horror from on-lookers as if say how bold rude of that 'young up-start' woman...
